First Decide Whether the Sound Is New

Normal sounds include a soft fan rush, a brief click when controls switch, gentle refrigerant movement and the outdoor compressor starting. Equipment type matters: inverter units change speed and may sound different as load varies. Central systems also transmit normal airflow through ducts and grilles.
